About us

Surf Coast Cruisers was formed in the early 1970’s by like-minded car nuts living in Cornwall.  The early years saw a soaring membership but not too many cars on the road - a sign of the times back then with the difficulty in putting together a rod in the 70’s.

The club soon made a name for itself by getting involved in the “Surf ’n’ Cruise” held at Skewjack.  It wasn’t long before the Club was organising its own Custom Car Show - the first being in 1978 at Clowance House.  Later the show moved to Ludgvan near Penzance and later still to Carbis Bay near St Ives.  The last show organised by the original club members was held there in 1986.

Due to a falling number of members the Club slipped gently into a coma during the early 1990’s - but following some intensive care and an injection of new members the Club burst back onto the scene again in 1997.

Soon the club got back to organising an annual show - the first one held at Monkey Tree Holiday Park near Newquay in 2001.  We have established a loyal following of rods and American cars and had well over 200 cars at the last show in 2006.

The last couple of years we held a "Weekender" rather than a full-on show - at St Ives Bay Holiday Park - the format being a relaxed weekend of cruising and getting together for a bit of partying with friends old and new.

This year we are putting on another proper show - back at the Monkey Tree!
The show will be the first weekend in July (not June as some magazine mights have you believe!)  For full details please see the events page!

We currently have nearly 30 members with nearly 20 cars between them - either on the road or in various stages of construction/rebuild.  We are always glad to meet anyone with an interest in the scene and are always happy to welcome new members.  If you like the sound of us do get in touch and maybe turn up at one of our cruise nights.
