Surf Coast Cruisers Weekender 2009
Well for once the weather was kind to us (well much kinder than in previous years anyway) and a good time was had by all at the Weekender based at the lovely St Ives Bay Holiday Park set amongst the sand dunes! Here's Adrian's truck providing camp to beach transport!
Friday - most of our visitors arrived and settled in with a few beers and a bit of catching up with old friends.
Saturday we cruised the Lands End peninsular - this was the same route as last year but this time with added sunshine! Okay so there was a short rainy spell but it wouldn't be Surf Coast Cruisers without a little "Cornish Sunshine"! We started off from the site and went straight to St Ives - around the harbour to surprise a few holidaymakers -
then off along the north coast road towards Lands End - this is when it started raining! We prayed for sunshine and were not disappointed as by the time we stopped at Botallack - to view one of the most well known sights along this stretch of coast - it was just glorious! Check out the colour of that ocean!
Off to Lands End then - where the sun kept on shining - and we had reserved parking just for us - lunch in the most westerly restaurant in England with fantastic sea views - and off once again to head back east towards Newlyn. A challenging drive in any car - the narrow winding lanes of Cornwall gave some of us a few interesting moments!
Through Penzance then and along the sea front before continuing on to Marazion - parking up finally on the grassy Folly Car Park right next to the beach and the famous view of St Michael's Mount. After that everyone wandered off for an ice cream before heading back to camp for the evening.
And so the weekend went on in a quite relaxed fashion - more beers in the evening to wash down pasties, home-made cakes and puds courtesy of SCC domestic goddesses!
Sunday we all cruised off along the north coast road before cutting across to Truro where the "Piazza" right in the middle of the shopping centre was reserved for our "Show n Shine". Shoppers were surprised to see us and we stayed there for a couple of hours - judging was done - trophies awarded and guess what happened then? (yep - it started raining).
We hope everyone enjoyed their little Cornish holiday weekend and will be back again to see us next year - from the feedback we have had it seems they did and they will!!!
Do keep an eye on the website over the coming months for news of what we will be doing in 2010!
